We felt that often times we ask students to create things and then discard them quickly.<br \/>\nThe idea of a class mascot to promote a sense of community and responsibility is something we feel we could use in our own teaching.  Maybe not to take home, but different students could have the mascot in different lessons, and that would mean they are responsible for note-taking, or collecting homework or whatever.<br \/>\nOne suggestion we had was in the talent grouping.  For the assessment students were to choose a favourite story and method for retelling. One way to use this would be as a team building activity for a leadership retreat or even as a homeroom activity.  This could even be used as a staff strategy to meet new hires.
